As part of the Morning Lazziness series about empowering women who encourage and do incredible things with their ideas in society, I had the pleasure of interviewing Cathy Paraggio.
Cathy Paraggio is a highly experienced business development manager who has successfully operated in start-up environments, with a particular emphasis on providing exceptional pre- and post-sales computer support.
Successfully oversaw sizable, intricate IT projects demanding inventive problem-solving approaches. Accountable for overseeing profit and loss management, sales operations, customer service, and supply chain coordination.
Here’s what we found out about Cathy’s daily routine, followed by an exclusive Q+A.
Can you share the story behind your journey as an entrepreneur? What inspired you to start your own business?
My son, Chris, told me he wanted to study music at college. I thought “Why do people fail at doing things they love?” Maybe they don’t understand the business around it.
My career was in computer networks until I received a cancer diagnosis that left me without a voice for years. I started NoNetz with other neighborhood women to keep my head busy, until Chris shared his college plans. At that point, I bought out the other women and decided to use NoNetz as a teaching tool so he could understand that everything is a business. You just need to understand each of the components around the product you are selling.
Together, we realized how many people are actually uncomfortable in their clothing. So, we started to redesign clothing for the texture sensitive (flat seams, no tags, no-cling fabrics) to ensure everyone is comfortable.
What challenges have you faced as a woman in the business world, and how have you overcome them?
The major challenge is access to capital. Working full time on your brand with a seasonal sales history makes it hard for banks to take a chance.
How do you balance your professional and personal life as an entrepreneur?
I work from home so I’m able to balance competing responsibilities equally. What’s great is being able to walk around outside on a NoNetz call in my garden. Then defrost something for dinner, while I’m working on a design. Previously I commuted over an hour to get to work, and my home life was very unbalanced. Working remotely is a nice, even , intertwining of efforts.
What strategies have you found most effective for networking and building connections in your industry?
The best method for me has been start-up groups. Whether they’re a formal organization or a reddit group, entrepreneurs understand the struggle. They have provided very valuable insights and connections.
How do you approach mentorship and seeking guidance in your entrepreneurial journey?
Things are changing rapidly so I’m always on the lookout for who is raising a flag of This is New – Look Here. When I enter a group and I don’t understand what they’re talking about – Im in the right place. The smarter people you surround yourself with, the more you can ride the waves of change.
Can you describe a specific setback or failure you’ve experienced in your business and how you bounced back from it?
Covid just about ended NoNetz. Our manufacturing team is in Thailand and they couldn’t get access to the vaccine. Our patterns are difficult, and have been compared to origami, as the fabric is folded then stitched so there is a minimal amount of stitching against your skin (as each stitch is a potential point of irritation). We’re just very fussy about everything we design and you need senior tailors. The senior stitchers got sick and never came back. There was a big re- training curve. We went without inventory for 8 months- missed our season. When manufacturing finally opened up , the ports closed and all of our inventory loans came due at once. Very very difficult financial times but we are coming back stronger than ever.
In what ways do you prioritize diversity and inclusion within your company or startup?
For each order we donate a portion to impoverished women in south east asia without waste infrastructure. We pay them to collect plastic before it enters the ocean. They bring to a recycling center. NoNetz uses fabric made from recycled water bottles for the exterior shell of our swimwear.
Each design is tested with extremely texture-sensitive people – a demographic largely overlooked. If they are comfortable, everyone will be comfortable.
How do you stay motivated and resilient during tough times in your business?
Some days are harder than others, but overall, I love the challenge. This has been the hardest thing I’ve ever done (outside of beating cancer). I have never learned so much in a 360 degree direction before, and I find that exciting. It has been my experience that the hardest things are the most rewarding.
What advice would you give to other aspiring women entrepreneurs who are just starting out?
Figure out who exactly your customer is.
Understand how to talk with them and see if your product solves their problem.
Improve, rebuild, repeat.
When you have satisfied a small target group, then figure out your capital.
Can you share a memorable success or milestone that you’ve achieved in your entrepreneurial career?
When I went to the shore and saw people wearing NoNetz, that was amazing.
The first time I ran payroll.
The first time I crossed the 6 figure revenue goal.
These milestones give me confidence that I can really do something successful and valuable with NoNetz.
As part of the Morning Lazziness series about empowering women who encourage and do incredible things with their ideas in society, I had the pleasure of interviewing Sophillia Tagaban
Sophillia Tagaban started Heart Blaster after her husband Gilbert created an Instagram account for their daughter Janelle @heartblaster and asked his followers to support her new venture with her dad. They sold 75 t-shirts in 2 days. From then on Sophillia has taken the lead on creating their brand, Heart Blaster, with the intention of bringing awareness, communication, and consciousness to social issues that create barriers for all of us in the world today through fashion!
Heart Blaster is a kids and young adult brand that sells boys and girls clothes and accessories. In a changing world they are bringing visual representation of friendship, love, and equality through their clothing. Heart Blaster collaborates with some amazing graffiti artists and graphic designers to create their unique style. Kids and young adults everywhere can’t get enough of Heart Blaster!
Here’s what we found out about Sophillia’s daily routine, followed by an exclusive Q+A.
Can you share the story behind your journey as an entrepreneur? What inspired you to start your own business?
When I was a kid I would sew with my grandmother. I dreamed of being a news anchor or a professional ice skater. I loved to draw. I have always been a good writer and a very meticulous kid. I was very sensitive, and I knew that I shared a love for people and social justice early on. I studied Human Services in college. I found a love for philanthropy and community. I have always been very driven in my life. I do not take no for an answer when it is something I believe in. I have always had that big entrepreneurial energy ! Somehow, all of the things I love have carved out a trajectory in this life that I could not have imagined ! My passion, interests and my kids are what have inspired me to start my own business. The endless possibilities are what drive me!
What challenges have you faced as a woman in the business world, and how have you overcome them?
As a driven woman, I have never liked asking for help, even as a child. It was challenging at the start of my business when there were a lot of new details to figure out, and not enough feedback or support around. I have learned that a lot of times, it is all you. You have to figure it out and trust your abilities to learn, and grow. The proof is in your work! I have learned that talking things out loud to myself or someone else, just for support, is super helpful to my process. There are many challenges in the business world and as a woman, so make sure you are surrounded by love and support even if they can not help you. Having a strong foundation around you will keep you going and inspired. Remembering that I am a constant growing force has helped me overcome what’s in front of me, and excited to see what’s next!
How do you balance your professional and personal life as an entrepreneur?
Balance is tough as a business professional and mom. I don’t know that there is ever equal balance in our daily lives. Some days business or the family will require more of me but never less. Mom duties are always there, and finding the time for everyone is important. Having a light plan with flexibility is helpful for having a successful week. I think of balance as a fluid process that is always shifting in our daily agendas. The most important part of balance is in our intentions to be fully present, and remembering that work and personal commitments require real quality time and attention. I think balance is a feeling that we get, when we are practicing self care, staying hydrated, meditating, and resting so we can thrive in both areas.
What strategies have you found most effective for networking and building connections in your industry?
Heart Blaster has developed a network that is authentic in our connections. We established relationships early on with youth organizations, and nonprofits. Connecting with like minded people and professionals is easy, when your mission is at the forefront of the brand. This is always our starting point in all areas of business and network. It has never been about strategy for HB.
How do you approach mentorship and seeking guidance in your entrepreneurial journey?
I am lucky to have established relationships with some amazing mentors. Chris Grunge is my partner and mentor. He has been in fashion and branding long before me. We clicked, we shared a passion for fashion and kids and we started HB together. I met Chris through a good mutual friend. He is always there for guidance, and we enjoy the journey! In the nonprofit space, I have amazing people around me that will share contacts for other mentors, when they see fit. Some are meant to stay for a short while and others will be with you along the way. It is important to learn the difference.
Can you talk about a specific setback or failure you’ve experienced in your business, and how you bounced back from it?
I don’t see challenges this way. I don’t believe our setbacks are failures. I see a challenge and I find it exciting to analyze it and find knowledge that will support a stronger outcome. Or, I see it as a sign to leave it behind, which is also a positive. A setback is an indication that something is not working. Figure out why, is it worth it? And don’t stay there for too long or it will actually set you back. I guess, that’s the bounce back!
In what ways do you prioritize diversity and inclusion within your company or startup?
Diversity is a part of who we are as a Brand. I am a Filipino, Spanish and Portuguese, Indigenous Mexican American. I grew up in Phoenix Arizona, Santa Cruz California, and the San Francisco Bay Area. I am a minority woman of color who deeply values identity. Our right to ourselves, our culture, and without bias. To be inclusive is without restraint to create something that is for the hearts of everyone. Heart Blaster will continue to grow and stay committed to our mission to serve the community and bridge equity.
How do you stay motivated and resilient during tough times in your business?
The love and drive I have for my work motivates me everyday. There is so much I want to do on both sides of the brand and nonprofit. I have not scratched the surface! I recently went through some tough times with my health. It was the most challenging experience I have ever had. I think sometimes life asks us to sit down. There was nothing I could do to get better faster. I had to trust that this time was also meant for me. It gave me the time to analyze a lot of things and I made conscious changes in my life during this time. Honor the time it takes to work through it. Know that it is temporary.
What advice would you give to other aspiring women entrepreneurs who are just starting out?
Keep learning about yourself and your business with a fierce energy to find joy and interest in your forever growing personal and professional path! Passion is always worth following because it’s the one thing that we can trust.
Can you share a memorable success or milestone that you’ve achieved in your entrepreneurial career?
Having two established businesses are milestones that I am very proud of. There is always work to be done in business, but having a strong foundation to grow on is the most important achievement. My greatest success is knowing that I did it on my own.
As part of the Morning Lazziness series about empowering women who encourage and do incredible things with their ideas in society, I had the pleasure of interviewing Kim Turner.
Kim Turner is the founder and CEO of the women’s crew sock brand Fitness Snob. Kim created Fitness Snob not to judge others, but to cultivate a fitness lifestyle that’s unapologetically about YOU and what’s best for you – from what workouts you do, who you do them with, and what you wear while you’re doing them! Prior to Fitness Snob, Kim was the owner of Fitness Snob Studio, a one-of-its-kind “WeWork” of fitness for independent instructors to run their own businesses and ran her own website Fashion Cents, to help give the world inexpensive options to achieve greater fashion sense. Before launching Fashion Cents, Kim owned FLAUNT Women’s Apparel & Image Consulting Boutique in Chicago’s South Loop.
Here’s what we found out about Kim‘s daily routine, followed by an exclusive Q+A.
Can you share the story behind your journey as an entrepreneur? What inspired you to start your own business?
My background spans brand management in Fortune 500 companies and numerous entrepreneurial ventures. From launching a fashion and image consulting boutique in Chicago to opening a fitness studio in Washington, DC, I’ve always been captivated by both fashion and fitness.
Before diving into my current venture, I was consistently engaged in the fashion and fitness industries. I noticed a significant gap in the market for fitness apparel accessories. While many brands offer excellent activewear, they often neglect the final touches that complete an outfit. This insight inspired me to start my own fitness apparel accessories line, beginning with crew socks.
Our first product, Fitness Snob crew socks, perfectly embodies our brand’s ethos – seamlessly blending functionality with fashion. In a market full of generic white crew socks, we cater to fashion-forward fitness enthusiasts who refuse to compromise on style. Our crew socks are more than just essentials; they’re statement pieces, meticulously crafted to provide both support and style.
What sets us apart is our diverse range of crews designed to reflect the dynamic personalities of our clientele, empowering them to express themselves both in and out of the gym.
I take great pride in merging my passions for fashion and fitness to create a brand that resonates with those who refuse to settle for the ordinary. For potential clients, followers, and fans, I want them to know that our brand is not just about apparel; it’s a mission. We’re here to promote unapologetic fitness preferences and affirm that whatever choices we make for ourselves are valid.
Our brand goes beyond clothing; it’s a celebration of individuality, self-expression, and inclusion. We’re dedicated to empowering our community to embrace their unique journeys and welcome others who defy typical expectations in fitness spaces. Join us as we champion diversity, authenticity, and the freedom to express oneself boldly, both in and out of the gym.
What challenges have you faced as a woman in the business world, and how have you overcome them?
As a woman in the business world, I’ve faced my fair share of challenges, from navigating male-dominated spaces to overcoming stereotypes and biases. However, I’ve learned to tackle these obstacles head-on by staying true to myself, cultivating confidence in my abilities, and leveraging my unique perspective as a strength rather than a limitation. Surrounding myself with a supportive network of fellow female entrepreneurs and mentors has also been instrumental in overcoming these challenges.
How do you balance your professional and personal life as an entrepreneur?
Balancing professional and personal life as an entrepreneur can be a juggling act, but I’ve found that setting boundaries, prioritizing self-care, and delegating tasks whenever possible is essential for maintaining harmony. By establishing a clear schedule, incorporating time for both work and relaxation, and learning to say no when necessary, I’ve been able to strike a healthy balance between my professional ambitions and personal well-being.
What strategies have you found most effective for networking and building connections in your industry?
Networking and building connections in the industry require authenticity, persistence, and a genuine interest in others. I’ve found that attending industry events, joining professional organizations, and actively engaging on social media platforms have been effective strategies for expanding my network. Additionally, nurturing existing relationships, offering support to others in my field, and seeking out opportunities for collaboration have been invaluable in building meaningful connections over time.
How do you approach mentorship and seeking guidance in your entrepreneurial journey?
Mentorship plays a crucial role in my entrepreneurial journey, and I actively seek guidance from experienced professionals who can offer valuable insights and advice. I approach mentorship with humility, openness, and a willingness to learn, recognizing that I have much to gain from the wisdom and expertise of others. Building authentic relationships with mentors, expressing gratitude for their guidance, and actively applying their feedback and recommendations have been key strategies in maximizing the benefits of mentorship in my entrepreneurial endeavors.
Can you talk about a specific setback or failure you’ve experienced in your business, and how you bounced back from it?
Our fitness studio in Washington, DC, known as Fitness Snob, resonated deeply with our community. However, upon launching our sock line nationally under the same trademark, we realized that the name could be misinterpreted as being judgemental by those unfamiliar with our ethos.
This unexpected challenge requires an unexpected dedicated effort to educate our audience. While the name ‘Fitness Snob’ embodies our commitment to unapologetic fitness preferences, it can understandably polarize those who misunderstand its intent.
We are embarking on an intensive awareness campaign, delving into the backstory of our brand and its underlying philosophy. We engage our community through various channels, from social media to targeted events, elucidating the meaning behind the name and its alignment with our values of inclusivity and empowerment.
It is a journey marked by adaptability and an opportunity for deeper connection with our audience and a reaffirmation of our mission. Through perseverance and a commitment to authenticity, we will successfully navigate this challenge.
In what ways do you prioritize diversity and inclusion within your company or startup?
At Fitness Snob, diversity and inclusion are at the core of everything we do. We believe that being a Fitness Snob is about being unapologetic about our fitness preferences while also prioritizing inclusivity and empowerment for all. We strive to create a welcoming and supportive environment where everyone, regardless of age, ethnicity, body type, or background, feels valued and included. By promoting diversity in our products and our messaging, we aim to inspire women to prioritize their health and well-being and to embrace their unique fitness journeys. Together, we’re breaking down barriers and creating a more inclusive fitness community where everyone feels empowered to pursue their fitness goals without hesitation.
How do you stay motivated and resilient during tough times in your business?
Just like building strong muscles is crucial for fitness, developing resiliency muscles is essential for entrepreneurs. When faced with challenges and setbacks, it’s our resilience that enables us to bounce back, learn from failures, and keep pushing forward toward our goals. Knowing that our work is making an impact and positively influencing others is a powerful source of motivation. And when obstacles inevitably arise, it’s our resiliency muscles that allow us to rise to the occasion.
What advice would you give to other aspiring women entrepreneurs who are just starting out?
Define Your Purpose. It not only guides your decision-making but also infuses your work with meaning and fulfillment. Understanding why you’re in business beyond just making a profit can be a powerful motivator during both the highs and lows of entrepreneurship. Reflecting on my own journey, I’ve found that having a strong sense of purpose has not only driven our brand’s mission but has also resonated deeply with our audience.
Can you share a memorable success or milestone that you’ve achieved in your entrepreneurial career?
One of the most memorable milestones in my entrepreneurial journey was securing my first wholesale client just six months into launching Fitness Snob. It was an incredibly exciting moment and marks a significant step forward in our growth and success. This achievement not only validates the quality and appeal of our products but also opens up new opportunities for expansion and partnership. It was a proud moment and a clear indication that Fitness Snob is on the right path toward building a successful and impactful brand in the fitness industry.
As part of the Morning Lazziness series about empowering women who encourage and do incredible things with their ideas in society, I had the pleasure of interviewing Katharine Earnhardt.

Katharine has a dual degree in Art History and Economics from Williams College and a Master’s in Art Business from Sotheby’s Institute of Art. Known for her transparency and personalized, engaging approach, Katharine grabs the attention of an audience leaving them educated and inspired.
Here’s what we found out about Katharine‘s daily routine, followed by an exclusive Q+A.
Can you share the story behind your journey as an entrepreneur? What inspired you to start your own business?
I started my own business because I find problem solving to be incredibly satisfying, and I like carving my own path vs. following someone else’s. Starting a business lets you flex your problem solving muscle all day every day. You are the CEO and janitor of your business, and you need to be agile, think creatively, and stretch yourself well beyond your comfort zone to learn about website design, marketing, financials, delegating, time batching, client communication, legal agreements and so much more. I love mixing the creative and logical sides of my brain and learning by doing, so founding an art advisory business truly fueled me in ways no other role had before. I also did a competitive analysis to see what other art advisors were doing and quickly noticed that no one was running an art advisory business the way I envisioned – catering to the entry level collector, marrying art and design, establishing a structured process. This created a natural opportunity for me to pursue my authentic vision because there was no true competition. Plus, there are no rules in the art advisory space. I had ample opportunity to experiment, learn, and grow. When you can do this in a way that aligns with your own vision rather than others’ expectations, you’re more likely to get long term enjoyment from the experience and build a successful business.
What challenges have you faced as a woman in the business world, and how have you overcome them?
The main challenge I have faced is less obvious than juggling home and family life, or experiencing overt sexism in the workplace – it’s been learning about the limiting beliefs I didn’t know I had, and working to change them. Educating myself about gender roles and their roots has been incredibly valuable to my personal and professional life. Books like “Curse of the Good Girl” by Rachel Simmons, or “On Our Best Behavior” by Elise Loehnen have informed me about how girls are raised differently and why women unknowingly underestimate their own potential. I find this type of information completely enlightening because it puts meaning around feelings, behaviors, and experiences I, and so many other women have, that just don’t serve the life we want to pursue. These types of resources should also not solely by explored by women; men would be better off by learning more on the topic as well. Gender discrimination does not serve society as a whole, and so many of us are not even aware of the thinking we’re doing or actions we’re taking that are limiting. Do your research on the topic, and you be better equipped to navigate professional and personal pursuits.
How do you balance your professional and personal life as an entrepreneur?
I have very little mom guilt because I truly protect time for the various priorities in my life. I have a weekly cooking date with my girls that we’ve done since my oldest was 1 years old, and we still do it every Tuesday, 10 years in. If my kids have an annual doctor’s appointment, a school performance, a gymnastics meet (and wow, there are a lot of those during weekdays), I put the time into my calendar and it is a non negotiable. Alongside that, I also protect time for myself in my schedule; I go to dinner on my own once every two weeks, bringing a book or my laptop to the restaurant as my date, and sometimes have dates in the calendar to go upstate by myself and reset. These complement daily practices of exercise, meditation, therapy and more that all keep me in balance. It’s not a perfect science, and I sometimes make less-than-optimal choices, but I focus on the lesson that experience provided, and apply that going forward, rather than wallow around in regret or shame.
What strategies have you found most effective for networking and building connections in your industry?
The most effective strategy for networking and building connections in my industry is to think of business development as a practice, not an extra chore that is done when time allows. Part of that practice is capturing contact information of those in your growing circle and having a clear way to touch them on a regular basis. We use Google Streak, an add-on CRM system. By creating pipelines for leads, clients and prospects, and creating non-negotiable and dedicated business development time, I can consistently optimize the relationship with existing clients, fostering closer connections and word-of-mouth marketing, and build new relationships.
How do you approach mentorship and seeking guidance in your entrepreneurial journey?
I have a vision board of people I admire, and it includes people who I know and do not know, real and fictional. It serves as a useful reminder of the various characteristics that I want to let shine more. We all have so many sides of ourselves, and it’s easy to get stuck in one and suppress the others. Frequently being reminded of what I admire about others lets me get in touch with the sides of me that may not be as easily accessed, and that keeps me on track. In terms of a mentor, I do not have one single person, but I believe in the power of collaboration, especially in an industry like art advisory in which so many people work independently. This is one reason why I built an advisory firm that includes business partners in other cities – so we can share ideas, troubleshoot, and support each other. This also provides a level of accountability and fun. Laughing with my colleagues makes every day so satisfying. Beyond this, I started a group called the Art Advisor’s Collaborative (the AAC) that brings together art advisors from around the country once a quarter to share goals, professional development ideas, artist resources and more. We all get value from this 60 minute meeting, and it’s planted a seed for another project I’m working on that will provide professional development opportunities for business women in the art and design space.
Can you talk about a specific setback or failure you’ve experienced in your business, and how you bounced back from it?
My journey has been filled with setbacks that I am thankful to have had because they simply provide me with experience that makes me a better person, professional, and art advisor today. One of these experiences is actually quite funny to remember. Soon after founding the business, I was eager to forge relationships with reputable interior designers. I met one, who indicated she had clients eager to buy a ton of art on their jaunt to New York City. They spoke no English and their feng shui expert would be joining. I obliged with no agreement and no discussion of my typical process with the hope of selling art and having a referral source for life. I had a car take us around the city for two days, introducing them to some of my best gallery and artist relationships, having art pulled from storage for the viewings. Those clients may have liked the art I showed them, but their feng shui expert did not. Not a single piece was bought, and the desired budget that was communicated to me shrunk by the day.
This experience taught me the value of saying no, recognizing mutually respectful professional relationships, and gaining a keen understanding of the decision-makers involved in the process. The confidence I now have around these issues translates to how I show up for my clients and designers in a way that is helpful for everyone involved, leading to more successful outcomes all around.
In what ways do you prioritize diversity and inclusion within your company or startup?
One of our core beliefs at Mason Lane is that art fosters connection. It fosters connection between artists and their internal feelings, between artists and viewers, between viewers and their internal feelings, and between seemingly diverse people who, without art, may have never otherwise crossed paths. In working with clients, we are not simply showing them pretty paintings; we are helping them feel connected to a broad cross section of people, concepts and artwork that touches them in unexpected ways. In doing this, they gain an appreciation for new kinds of thinking, means of self expression, cultural experiences and more. This is what breeds a long term interest in a particular artwork, artist or genre, and it is incredibly satisfying to see our clients’ mindset shift as they successfully start to embrace a broader understanding of diversity, tolerance and inclusion through the lens of art.
How do you stay motivated and resilient during tough times in your business?
Motivation and resilience have never been a struggle for me, and it is entirely internal. I have a huge urge to consistently improve upon my own performance. One way I have made this possible is by tracking data around my business. The Economics major inside me loves a good spreadsheet, and I have purposefully tracked business data for years, including number of clients served annually, average price per artwork purchased, number of artworks purchased per client, revenue generated from clients referred to us through designers vs. those coming to us without designers, and more. Having this information helps me set goals, achieve them, and know where I need to improve. I cannot imagine feeling as motivated without this data as a baseline, and I recommend data tracking for any business person as a tool to fuel growth.
What advice would you give to other aspiring women entrepreneurs who are just starting out?
Set up the scaffolding of your business now, before your files and financials are too much to handle. Having a system in place for managing your sales pipeline, inspiration or inventory, and documents is an investment in your future time and cost efficiency. It is too often overlooked because new business owners are inclined to focus purely on sales, and/or they simply do not know how to set up back-of-the-house systems. The impact of not prioritizing this, however, can be debilitating mentally and logistically. Put the effort in early to set up sustainable systems that can be maintained, and you will be able to run an organized business with a clear mind for growth.
Can you share a memorable success or milestone that you’ve achieved in your entrepreneurial career?
I left Art Basel Miami Beach last December with such a strong sense of accomplishment. That fair has served as a marker of my art career since I first went in 2010. This past December was my 10th year joining as founder of Mason Lane. I was joined in Miami by 5 colleagues from our 4 offices across North America and we sold $300,000 worth of art in 4 days. That $300,000 is nothing to some art world veterans, but to me, and today, it’s a piece of a larger picture that represents success. Adding to that success is that gallerists who had never met me or my colleagues knew who I was and what my company was about. I had built a brand with a reputation that others respected.
This is all such a leap from when I first went to Art Basel Miami Beach on business nearly fifteen years ago, I didn’t have a client to shop for. I had managed to get a VIP pass for early entry through Christie’s, my employer, and within the sea of deal-making gallerists and advisors, I strolled the booths, sometimes chatting on the phone with my mom. My target clients were the highest end collectors in the world – the kind that owned more art than their multiple residences could house. Some of them had their own museums with rotating exhibitions. These people were definitely also at the fairs, not talking to their moms; that’s where they conducted business, securing coveted artwork and having their people wire over funds. This was also absolutely not the place where I could talk to them, and I needed to navigate the social scene to figure out how to get in front of them, get some business cards, and secure the highest caliber clients.
As part of the Morning Lazziness series about empowering women who encourage and do incredible things with their ideas in society, I had the pleasure of interviewing Lyda Mclallen.
While working in corporate for over 8 years, Lyda Smith not-so-secretly helped authors promote their books as a side hustle. In 2017, she decided to pursue this passion full time, aiming to provide authors with the same PR and marketing success she had delivered to influencers, bestselling authors, CEOs, and major brands.
Since then, Lyda and her team have assisted authors in selling hundreds of thousands of books, winning awards, becoming international bestsellers, embarking on cross-country book tours, and featuring in major outlets like BBC, Vogue, Huffington Post, and the New York Times. Their efforts have even helped authors achieve viral success.
By 2019, Lyda had re-launched Talk+Tell as a comprehensive self-publishing company. Today, she helps authors produce beautiful, marketable books that reflect their goals and visions, transforming dreams into reality.
Here’s what we found out about Lyda’s daily routine, followed by an exclusive Q+A.
Can you share the story behind your journey as an entrepreneur? What inspired you to start your own business?
Today, I am a book publisher and owner of Talk+Tell. For the last 8 years, I have worked with some of the most amazing and talented authors and writers from around the world. Together, we have built their stories into profitable books that are both timeless and loved by readers.
But it took a lot of work and major changes to get where I am today.
Over a decade ago, I faced the toughest decision of my career: leaving my dream job at a publishing house to dive into the competitive world of big corporate. Why? Because the publishing industry, with its old-school ways and lack of transparency, felt limiting. I craved change. I wanted to start my own publishing company, one that would break down barriers and offer authors the latest strategies and tools that big publishers often overlook. So, I took the leap, climbed the corporate ladder, and learned the systems and strategies that could help authors gain major success both outside and inside the publishing industry. It wasn’t long until Talk+Tell was born, and since then, I’ve helped hundreds of authors go from manuscript to bestselling book.
What challenges have you faced as a woman in the business world, and how have you overcome them?
One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced as a woman in the business world was initially feeling like I had to step into my masculine energy to be successful. I thought I needed to adopt a more traditional, assertive approach, as that’s often what seemed to be valued in the corporate environment. However, I soon realized that this wasn’t the only way to achieve success.
I’m a girls girl, I love the color pink, I love romance, flowers, I tend to wear mostly dresses, and I’m very feminine. At first, I felt I had to hide these aspects of myself to be taken seriously. But as time went on, I found that the more I embraced my authenticity and let my true personality shine, the more my business grew. When I started being true to myself, authors and writers wanted to connect with the real me. They appreciated my genuine approach and felt more comfortable and inspired working with someone who was unapologetically herself.
By stepping into my authenticity, I not only overcame the initial challenge of feeling out of place but also created a unique and successful business. My experience has shown me that authenticity is a powerful asset, and being true to who you are can lead to genuine connections and significant growth.
How do you balance your professional and personal life as an entrepreneur?
Balancing my professional and personal life as an entrepreneur comes naturally to me because my work doesn’t feel like work. I love reading, and outside of the books I publish, I read 100 books a year. This passion for reading seamlessly blends my professional and personal life.
However, I do set boundaries for myself to maintain a healthy balance. I have established working hours that all my authors are aware of, ensuring that my work time is respected. Additionally, I create morning rituals that help me transition into work mode while prioritizing my health. These rituals include journaling in the morning, going for a short walk, and enjoying a cup of coffee.
What strategies have you found most effective for networking and building connections in your industry?
he best strategy I’ve found for networking and building connections in the book publishing industry is to be authentic and share everything I know about the industry. I genuinely want to help all writers and authors understand the behind-the-scenes of the book world.
To do this, I share a lot through social media, blog posts, and my Facebook group. I love talking about the ins and outs of publishing, and people appreciate the transparency. By being open and supportive, I’ve built a strong community around my work. Authors and writers want to connect with someone who is real and genuinely interested in their success.
How do you approach mentorship and seeking guidance in your entrepreneurial journey?
I approach mentorship and seeking guidance in my entrepreneurial journey by staying open and always looking to learn from others. I believe that no matter how much you know, there’s always more to learn. I love following other entrepreneurs in other industries to see what they are doing to gain success as well.
Can you talk about a specific setback or failure you’ve experienced in your business, and how you bounced back from it?
One of the biggest setbacks I experienced was right when COVID-19 started. As a book publisher, we handle a lot of books and manage all of our authors’ printing and distribution processes to get their books into the hands of readers. Once the pandemic hit, printing stalled, and it became much harder to get books printed and distributed to online retailers.
To bounce back, we had to quickly pivot. We looked into local printers who turned out to be incredibly helpful and amazing. Additionally, we shifted our focus to ebook sales, which more customers were looking for at the time. This quick adaptation not only helped us navigate the challenges brought by the pandemic but also opened new opportunities for our authors. By being flexible and resourceful, we managed to keep things moving and continue supporting our authors during a difficult time.
In what ways do you prioritize diversity and inclusion within your company or startup?
We prioritize diversity and inclusion within our company by actively seeking out and publishing a wide range of voices and stories. We believe that everyone has a unique perspective to share, and we strive to reflect that in the books we publish.
How do you stay motivated and resilient during tough times in your business?
I stay motivated and resilient during tough times by practicing self-love, journaling, and listening to inspirational podcasts. Journaling helps me process my thoughts and stay focused, while podcasts provide motivation through stories of resilience and overcoming challenges. These habits keep me grounded and inspired, helping me navigate difficulties with a positive mindset.
What advice would you give to other aspiring women entrepreneurs who are just starting out?
My advice to other aspiring women entrepreneurs who are just starting out is to believe in yourself and your vision. Don’t be afraid to take risks and pursue your passion wholeheartedly. Surround yourself with a supportive network of mentors, peers, and advisors who can provide guidance and encouragement along the way.
One of my best tips is to recognize the importance of focus. It’s tempting to want to do everything at once, but spreading yourself too thin can hinder your success. Instead, prioritize and focus on the most critical tasks that align with your goals. By concentrating your efforts, you’ll achieve greater results and make more significant strides toward your entrepreneurial aspirations.
Can you share a memorable success or milestone that you’ve achieved in your entrepreneurial career?
One of the most memorable successes in my entrepreneurial career is seeing our authors’ books come to life and achieve widespread recognition. Holding their published books in my hands is an indescribable feeling of pride and excitement, knowing that we’ve played a part in bringing their stories to the world.
Witnessing our authors’ milestones, like book signings or seeing their books prominently displayed in bookstores, is equally rewarding. From having their books featured in big retailers like Costco, Barnes & Noble, and Indigo, to appearing in independent bookstores across North America, each achievement is a testament to our collective hard work and dedication.
These moments of success not only validate our efforts but also serve as inspiration to continue pushing forward and helping more authors achieve their dreams. Seeing the tangible results of our work is incredibly fulfilling and motivates us to keep striving for even greater milestones in the future.
As part of the Morning Lazziness series about empowering women who encourage and do incredible things with their ideas in society, I had the pleasure of interviewing Gayle Jennings-O’Byrne.
Gayle Jennings-O’Byrne is CEO of Wocstar Capital, and co-founder of the Wocstar Fund, an early-stage venture fund that invests in the future of consumption and innovation using a female arbitrage strategy — we are a fund that invests in the future of consumption and innovation using a female arbitrage strategy — women of color tech entrepreneurs (“WOCstars”). Gayle (pronounced: Gay-lä) was named “10 Women Changing the Landscape of Leadership” by the New York Times, March 2021. She is the host of “VCs off the Record”, and instructor at Wocstar Academy. Gayle co-founded Ally Capital Collab, an initiative with women of color fund managers to address systemic capital-raising challenges.
Gayle has over 30+ years of wall street, technology, philanthropy, training, and professional speaking experience. She is a former mergers and acquisitions banker at JPMorgan. She led the capital/planning effort for the Cinema High School, 1st public high school of its kind. She began her career at Sun Microsystems.
Can you share the story behind your journey as an entrepreneur? What inspired you to start your own business?
I know firsthand that raising capital as a Black woman entrepreneur, or anyone that isn’t in the mainstream, can feel like breaking into a boys’ club. So many incredible female entrepreneurs are developing new companies, but too often, we’re left with empty promises and a ticket to the next accelerator while the tech bros cash in.
We’re here to change that. I started Wocstar because I wanted to disrupt the status quo and build a sisterhood of entrepreneurs. My alliance of founders and investors with a clear vision for the future and big, bold ideas are rewriting the narrative, one investment at a time.
Here’s what we found out about Gayle’s daily routine, followed by an exclusive Q+A.
What challenges have you faced as a woman in the business world, and how have you overcome them?
As a woman in business, we’re constantly being underestimated. But—that’s not always such a bad thing. Because when I come prepared, give 110%, and exceed expectations, there’s no better feeling than surprising someone with who you are.
How do you balance your professional and personal life as an entrepreneur?
Balancing my personal and professional life means setting firm boundaries and sticking to them. It’s a constant practice, but I always remind myself of my “why”—my family, my team, our investors, and the entrepreneurs. I prioritize family by putting away the laptop, ignoring emails, and muting notifications to fully engage with them. After all, tomorrow isn’t guaranteed. And for the sake of my team, investors, partners, and the entrepreneurs we support, I make sure to prioritize self-care, sleep, and exercise. Without balance, I’m no good to anyone. Trust me, a tired, grumpy, stressed version of me is not a good thing.
What strategies have you found most effective for networking and building connections in your industry?
When it comes to networking, I treat every connection and relationship like a flower. Start with a good foundation of values and goals; then water, nourish, and care for the relationship if you want it to bloom and flourish. Instead of seeing people as what they can do for you, see the human being behind the business card or the LinkedIn profile. Cultivating authentic relationships takes time and patience but proves to be more fruitful than superficial networking simply to get ahead. I’m always asking, “how can I be a blessing or help to someone else?”
How do you approach mentorship and seeking guidance in your entrepreneurial journey?
I encourage everyone to stay curious. I’m just naturally inquisitive and genuinely interested in people and their journeys. So much of what there is to learn lies in the journeys of others. The best lessons are not in books, but inside folks you come across everyday. Sharing stories not only nurtures empathy but also deepens our understanding of the world, and that’s what’s helped me on my business journey. I love me some Wendy Williams. Just imagine if we all started a conversation with “How you doing?” and we really, really listened to the answer.
Can you talk about a specific setback or failure you’ve experienced in your business, and how you bounced back from it?
Rejection is simply redirection! Wocstar recently encountered a setback when a bank, which had initially pledged a multi-million dollar investment, withdrew its commitment unexpectedly.
Another investor had already agreed to invest contingent on the bank’s commitment, so when the initial bank retracted its offer, we lost the second investment as well. That’s $5 million dollars that we could have invested in companies! It sucks to lose that capital. But it’s the perfect example of that old saying—when one door closes, another one opens.
This March, we were selected along with nine other minority and women-led venture capital firms to collectively invest $32 million in North Carolina. Vice President Harris announced the funding, which has been made available through the U.S. Treasury Department’s State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI), at a personal visit with us in North Carolina. So check us out, because we are looking for innovative startups in North Carolina and across the country in whom to invest. We are actively investing and writing checks! We’re on a mission to invest in, grow, and stimulate the economy.
In what ways do you prioritize diversity and inclusion within your company or startup?
We prioritize diversity and inclusion every way we can — not just because it is the right thing to do, but because it is our “secret sauce.” We invest in diverse teams and underrepresented entrepreneurs, because it is profitable! They are creating innovative solutions and solving consumer problems.
Here’s just three (3) things we at Wocstar do that you can do, too! Starting TODAY, put your money where your mouth is by investing in women of color entrepreneurs, supporting diverse vendors, and serving as a connector of people in your network.
How do you stay motivated and resilient during tough times in your business?
I stay motivated and resilient by spending time with founders and investors — they give me energy. If you stay focused on the end user, customer, client, or your “why,” it’ll keep you grounded and motivated, and you’ll learn a lot about what they really need.
What advice would you give to other aspiring women entrepreneurs who are just starting out?
Be a problem solver. Create solutions people will pay for. Whether you’re a rideshare app like Uber, an edtech startup like Possip, or a document redaction tool like Redactable, success lies in solving real-world problems. Exceptional problem-solvers with value-add earn not just customers, but their loyalty.
Can you share a memorable success or milestone that you’ve achieved in your entrepreneurial career?
I’m proud of the team and the culture we are building – they really are Wocstars. They get up each day and give it their all, not because of me or their deadlines, but because of our shared focus and mission. Money and material things are not enough to inspire and motivate people. It’s not just about the hustle; it’s about feeling the love for the work, the ‘why,’ and the folks we’re serving.

Here’s what we found out about Dee’s daily routine, followed by an exclusive Q+A.
Can you share the story behind your journey as an entrepreneur? What inspired you to start your own business?
My journey as an entrepreneur is deeply rooted in my upbringing as a second-generation immigrant from Portugal. Witnessing my parents’ relentless work ethic and the opportunities their hard work afforded our family inspired me to pursue my own path. However, growing up, I longed for a different kind of involvement in my children’s lives—one that allowed me to be present for the moments that mattered most, like field trips and volunteering at school.
After the birth of my first child, I made the courageous decision to leave behind a well-established corporate job in the investment world, embarking on a journey of entrepreneurship that I’ve never looked back from. While it was a daunting leap into the unknown, the desire to create a life where I could prioritize my family while pursuing my passions was the driving force behind my decision.
Today, as a successful entrepreneur, I’m grateful for the freedom and flexibility that running my own business affords me. Being able to be there for my children in the same way I yearned for as a child brings me immense joy and fulfillment. My journey as an entrepreneur is a testament to the power of following your heart, embracing change, and creating a life aligned with your values and priorities.
What challenges have you faced as a woman in the business world, and how have you overcome them?
As a woman in the business world, I’ve encountered my fair share of challenges, particularly in my past career in the investment world. Despite it being the 2000s, the financial industry remains predominantly male-dominated, making it inherently challenging for women to climb the ranks. However, I refused to let these barriers hold me back. Instead, I embraced the mantra of becoming the creator of my own destiny.
Finding strength in my God-given purpose and aligning with it became my guiding light. I realized that if I didn’t like something, I had the power to change it. By forging my own path and refusing to be limited by societal norms, I overcame the obstacles that stood in my way.
How do you balance your professional and personal life as an entrepreneur?
Balancing professional and personal life as an entrepreneur has been a journey of self-discovery and intentional choices. One of the key strategies I’ve adopted is setting boundaries. These boundaries dictate when I’m available to clients, when I log off the computer, and ensuring that I’m fully present when spending time with my family.
I’ve learned the importance of blocking out non-work time to prioritize self-care and recharge. Starting each day with a routine that includes meditation, intention setting, and physical activity, whether it’s a walk or a gym session, sets a positive tone for the rest of the day.
By committing to these boundaries and rituals, I’ve been able to create a sense of balance that allows me to pursue my professional goals while also nurturing my personal well-being and relationships. It’s about finding harmony between the demands of entrepreneurship and the joys of life outside of work.
What strategies have you found most effective for networking and building connections in your industry?
Networking and building connections in my industry has been a cornerstone of my entrepreneurial journey. Over the years, I’ve found attending networking events to be incredibly valuable. In fact, my passion for networking led me to become the founder of my own network, The Inspiring Women’s Network, nearly two decades ago.
As the founder of this network, I’ve had the opportunity to connect with a wide range of individuals and build meaningful relationships. Being the founder has opened doors and presented numerous opportunities because people often recognize and value the insights of the founder.
More recently, I expanded my networking efforts by joining forces with the Boston Business Women’s Network which has grown to include over 50,000 women. I was honored to be asked to head up the Downtown Boston chapter, further expanding my reach and connections within the industry.
When it comes to networking, I’ve found that seeking out like-minded individuals who understand the power of collaboration is key. Platforms like LinkedIn have been invaluable for connecting with new contacts on a daily basis and fostering meaningful relationships. By prioritizing networking and building genuine connections, I’ve been able to grow my business and make a positive impact in my industry.
How do you approach mentorship and seeking guidance in your entrepreneurial journey?
Approaching mentorship and seeking guidance in my entrepreneurial journey has been instrumental in my growth and success. I actively seek out individuals who have achieved success in areas that align with my goals or who have walked similar paths to the one I’m on. I believe that investing in mentorship is essential for personal and professional development. Learning from those who have valuable insights and experiences to share has provided me with invaluable guidance, helping me navigate challenges and make informed decisions along the way.
Can you talk about a specific setback or failure you’ve experienced in your business, and how you bounced back from it?
One setback I faced in my business was a significant financial loss due to the unexpected shutdown of a wellness company I had partnered with. This setback required me to essentially restart that sector of my wellness business portfolio from scratch. However, through the trust and reputation I had built with my clients, I was able to rebuild with a new wellness company. My existing clients played a crucial role in this process by providing referrals and facilitating new partnerships. While it was a challenging experience, it taught me resilience and the importance of adaptability in the face of adversity. Through perseverance and the support of my community, I was able to bounce back stronger and continue pursuing my passion for holistic health and wellness.
In what ways do you prioritize diversity and inclusion within your company or startup?
At CLY diversity and inclusion are fundamental values that we prioritize in all aspects of our operations. We believe that fostering a diverse and inclusive environment not only strengthens our team but also enhances creativity, innovation, and overall business success. To prioritize diversity and inclusion, we have implemented several initiatives. These include actively recruiting and hiring individuals from diverse backgrounds. Additionally, we regularly seek feedback from our clients to ensure that we are continuously improving and evolving our approach to diversity and inclusion. By prioritizing diversity and inclusion, we strive to create a community where every individual feels valued, respected, and empowered to bring their authentic selves every day.
How do you stay motivated and resilient during tough times in your business?
Staying motivated and resilient during tough times in my business is largely fueled by my passion for helping women feel their best. Witnessing the positive transformations and receiving heartfelt testimonials from my clients serve as constant reminders of the impact of my work, which fills my cup daily. Additionally, I prioritize intention setting, meditation, and surrounding myself with positive, uplifting outlets to maintain my resilience and focus, ensuring that I can continue serving my clients with dedication and enthusiasm.
What advice would you give to other aspiring women entrepreneurs who are just starting out?
For aspiring women entrepreneurs just starting out, my advice is to surround yourself with individuals who are already doing what you aspire to do. Invest in yourself by hiring a coach who can provide guidance and support tailored to your goals. Don’t hesitate to outsource tasks that you don’t enjoy or aren’t your strengths, allowing you to focus on leveraging your unique gifts and talents to propel your business forward. Remember, it’s okay to seek help and delegate responsibilities to create space for growth and success.
Can you share a memorable success or milestone that you’ve achieved in your entrepreneurial career?
One of the most memorable successes in my entrepreneurial journey was launching my podcast, “Confidently Balance Your Hormones.” It’s been incredibly rewarding to see it resonate with listeners and become recognized as a top performer in my industry segment, ranking in the top 1% for listenership. This milestone has not only validated the importance of the content I provide but has also allowed me to reach and positively impact a wider audience on their health and wellness journeys.
As part of the Morning Lazziness series about empowering women who encourage and do incredible things with their ideas in society, I had the pleasure of interviewing Kristin LaSalle.

She has contributed as a blogger and has been featured on platforms such as the Today show, CelebrityFitness.com, and Spinnr. Currently, she holds the positions of CMO and Co-Founder at both Spinnr and Vengo AI. As the CMO of these companies, she is dedicated to driving positive change and empowering women entrepreneurs to pursue their aspirations in the fields of social media, video, AI marketplace, and hobby apps.
Here’s what we found out about Kristin‘s daily routine, followed by an exclusive Q+A.
Can you share the story behind your journey as an entrepreneur? What inspired you to start your own business?
As the Co-founder of Spinnr and Vengo AI, I was inspired to start my own business for two key reasons. Firstly, I wanted to use my creativity and had a desire to help others. This fueled my entrepreneurial spirit and although it was a big risk, I needed to try, or I knew I would have regrets later in life. I have always been known for thinking outside the box and approaching challenges with passion and understanding. I get people and can connect with them and their needs. Secondly, despite my success in making other companies very profitable, I felt constrained by office politics, favoritism, and a lack of appreciation for my unique qualities and creative nature. This led me to pursue my own ventures and surround myself with creatives who think more like me. Now, I have a team I look forward to collaborating with every week. I was able to create a culture that embraced diversity, creativity, and individuality at Spinnr and Vengo AI, where we allow these aspects to shine.
What challenges have you faced as a woman in the business world, and how have you overcome them?
I worked in a lot of mens industries from pharmaceuticals to commercial finance and even technology. One significant obstacle I faced was the struggle to be heard and recognized by male counterparts. Often, I found myself overlooked and pushed to the background in meetings or important decisions, despite my contributions and efforts in driving the company forward. This disparity in visibility and acknowledgment led to a sense of being undervalued and underappreciated. Additionally, I have experienced disparities in opportunities and compensation compared to my male counterparts, highlighting the gender biases that persist in all industries. Despite these challenges, I remain steadfast and determined to make my companies succeed to show other girls they can dream big too. I’m fortunate at this point in my career to have a Co-founder who collaborates and appreciates my professional and creative advice and makes me feel I am a valuable piece to our success.
How do you balance your professional and personal life as an entrepreneur?
I prioritize maintaining a balance between my professional and personal life by setting a set schedule and keeping a calendar. I achieve this by adhering to a structured schedule, holding myself accountable, and taking regular breaks, including a dedicated lunch break daily. By establishing a routine that mimics a traditional workday, I ensure a sense of consistency and structure in my entrepreneurial endeavors. Additionally, I prioritize spending quality time with my family on the weekends, and sticking to a routine during the week. I recognize the importance of maintaining a healthy work-life balance and how having this only makes you more creative, less tired and more organized, as well as adjusted.
What strategies have you found most effective for networking and building connections in your industry?
I also engage in networking and building connections in my industry. I try to engage with everyone. I don’t fear anyone or say that a person is too important or too busy to talk to me. I also prioritize those who respond and support me by taking extra steps to engage with them. I always go the extra mile to support their small business, events or social media accounts. I not only show appreciation but also strengthen the relationship. This reciprocal support fosters a sense of community and mutual benefit, leading to more meaningful and long-lasting connections within the industry. I have been very fortunate to build a great network and it has helped not only build a solid foundation but also organically grow our company with the help of my networking friends.
How do you approach mentorship and seeking guidance in your entrepreneurial journey?
I know this might sound cliche, but my biggest mentors and guides have been my Co-founders and my team. I can’t tell you how many new skills or creative ideas came from our brief meetings. They know how to help me open up and tap into my creative wild mind. It’s quite an experience. If you can value others’ skills and learn from them, you can also gain their knowledge and better yourself.
Can you talk about a specific setback or failure you’ve experienced in your business, and how you bounced back from it?
One specific setback we have experienced in our business is the challenge of securing adequate funding, which has limited our ability to scale and fully realize our vision due to budget constraints. Despite this obstacle, we have remained resilient and focused on maximizing the resources available to us and really building a strong knowledgeable in-house team who can serve as multiple departments with unhinged skills. By prioritizing efficiency, creativity, and strategic decision-making, we have adapted our plans and operations to make the most of our limited resources. This experience has taught us valuable lessons in financial management and resource optimization, ultimately strengthening our business acumen and determination to succeed. We remain hopeful and keep moving against the current.
In what ways do you prioritize diversity and inclusion within your company or startup?
At our company, prioritizing diversity and inclusion is fundamental to our ethos. We ensure gender balance by maintaining that at least 50% of our employees are female. Our team’s racial diversity is evident as half of our developers are Asian and the other half are Indian and Latin American, reflecting our commitment to creating a multicultural workspace. Leadership is similarly diverse, with key roles like our co-founder and our director of diversity being Hispanic. Beyond workforce diversity, our products are designed with inclusivity at their core, aiming to be welcoming and accessible to LGBTQ individuals, people with disabilities, and those with mental health issues, ensuring our applications are as universally approachable as possible.
How do you stay motivated and resilient during tough times in your business?
I have had an extremely turbulent life, and I have gotten through many things on my journey that I thought I couldn’t overcome. I remind myself that everything is temporary and in my business, it changes hourly, so I try to take things one step at a time. I work daily on building a strong support network, both within the team and externally. My team always provides valuable insights and encouragement during challenging times. I maintain a sense of purpose and passion for the work we do and always remind myself where we started and how far we have come.
What advice would you give to other aspiring women entrepreneurs who are just starting out?
I would advise aspiring women entrepreneurs who are just starting their careers to have confidence in their ideas and vision. Do not be afraid to take risks and pursue your goals. Even if it doesn’t work out, try your best and learn valuable skills you can take with you. Surround yourself with a supportive network of mentors, advisors, and peers who can provide guidance and encouragement along the way. Remember that your unique perspective and experiences as a woman in business can be a valuable asset in driving innovation and success. Stay focused, stay determined, and never underestimate the power of your own potential. I always say , “For every good man there is a woman standing close by him!”
Can you share a memorable success or milestone that you’ve achieved in your entrepreneurial career?
During Covid, the world was in shambles and people were crying out to connect. There was literally a loneliness epidemic. Instead of sitting on the sidelines and feeling bad for ourselves, my team and I developed a solution. A community that not only met the needs of our market but also exceeded expectations. This led to widespread adoption and positive feedback from users. This was the most significant milestone in my career. Not only did it validate our innovative approach but also solidified our position as future leaders in our industry. It was a proud moment for me and my team. We showcased our ability to drive meaningful change and make lasting impacts while leveraging technology to help others learn new skills, share hobbies, and feel connected again.
