Relationships are complicated, and there is never one clear answer for everything that happens in a relationship, including why women cheat. However, there are a number of common reasons why women cheat.
When you understand why cheating happens, you may be able to take the necessary steps to avoid cheating or being cheated on.
1. Women cheat because they are seeking an emotional connection.Â
If a woman feels like her partner is not emotionally available, and she lacks a deep understanding, she will be drawn to someone to who she feels more connected. Women (and men) often cheat with a co-worker, and that is because they form a bond with that person, spending time together day after day. When women feel more connected to someone than their partner, you risk the danger of an emotional affair taking place, which will ultimately lead to a physical affair.Â
2. Women cheat because they are afraid to end their current relationship.Â
Some women know that they are with the wrong person, but they are holding on, trying to make the relationship work. These women may cheat as a way to test the waters to see what else is out there. In some cases, women in unhappy relationships will cheat because they are afraid of being alone. They will start a relationship with someone new and go from one relationship to another without taking any time in between. Other times, a woman may not want to end the relationship but may want to give her significant other a reason to end things. In these cases, she hopes to get caught so that her partner will break up with her.
3. Women cheat because their partner doesn’t understand their love language.Â
If a woman needs to feel loved by receiving affection or words of affirmation and her partner fails to provide those things, she may not feel valued in her relationship. If someone else comes along and does those things, she will be vulnerable and may be swept away by the new person who seems more attentive to her needs. It’s important to understand your partner’s love language and show your love to them in the way he or she is able to receive it. Take time to learn your partner’s love language. I always recommend that my clients read the book The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman. A basic understanding of how to give and receive love and communicate your needs is necessary to make your relationship affair-proof.
4. Women cheat because they don’t respect and admire their partner.Â
I know this may be hard to hear, but women will stray if they don’t feel a certain level of respect for their partner. In the two decades, I have spent as a matchmaker and relationship expert, the most common thing women tell me they must have in a romantic partner is someone who they respect and admire. Women need a man to have confidence and masculine energy. If he doesn’t, she will be drawn to someone else who does.
5. Women cheat because it was the right place and the right time.Â
She may be on vacation, had too many margaritas, and that hot guy from the pool starts flirting with her. Sometimes situations lead to cheating. You may have a great relationship, and she loves you deeply, but she was just at the right place, at the right time (in actuality, the wrong place, at the wrong time.) I think that this circumstance is probably the most forgivable because it was a lapse in judgement that she will regret and is no reflection of how she feels about you or the relationship. Sometimes things just happen. That’s life. You learn from mistakes and move on.Â
If you suspect that the woman in your life has cheated, have an open and honest conversation about your feelings. Women love communication, so she may even feel relieved that you’ve brought it up and are willing to talk about it. If your partner has cheated, decide if the relationship is worth holding onto and if it is, make a plan to work on rebuilding trust and intimacy together.Â
